Remembering Professor Plange-Rhule

It is with great sadness that we note the passing of Prof Jacob Plange-Rhule a friend of GDDA-UK as well as a colleague. We are privileged and gratified in remembering his life and contribution to medical education and health service in Ghana and the international Health community.

Some of us will remember him from our medical school days in Kumasi at the School of Medical Sciences of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology whiles others will remember him as a Physician colleague at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital(KATH) or simply as a friend. In all this he was found to be a kind-hearted gentleman ready with a smile and ready to help anyone in need.

He was an excellent Senior Lecturer and Physician Specialist at KATH who contributed enormously to the training of medical students and postgraduates.

His various academic and professional achievements is to be highly commended. Prof’s appointment as the Rector of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons is testimony to this. Despite all these achievements he remained such a kind and modest man and was a model to all those who knew him.

We at GDDA-UK fondly remember when he attended our Annual Health conference in Liverpool as our external guest speaker in 2018 where he had time to give invaluable advice to trainee doctors and specialist consultants.

On behalf of GDDA-UK, I would like to offer our deepest condolences to his wife, Dr Gyikua Plange-Rhule and the rest of his family at this extremely sad time.

Dr William Kedjanyi

President GDDA-UK

Prof Plange-Rhule - former Rector of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons Ghana.
