GDDA-UK Donates to Hospital in Ghana

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of GDDA-UK executives, I would like to say a big thank you to our members who contributed to our recent urgent "Appeal for Funds to Help the COVID-19 Response in Ghana". Your prompt response and generosity yielded £2623 to which £5000 was added from our charity funds, giving us a total of £7623.

From this, £7500 or the equivalence of GHC 52,500 worth of PPE and hygiene/sanitisation products were purchased and donated for distribution to Lekma Hospital, Greater Accra, Yendi Municipal Hospital, Northern Region and Ledzokuku Constituency in Greater Accra.

Our donated PPE is to aid the frontline health workers in Ghana combat the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic outbreak whilst the provision of mounted Veronica buckets, hand sanitizers, hand paper towels and hand soap is part of the effort to maintain good hygiene as part of a preventative public health strategy.

As already circulated via our WhatsApp GDDA Newsfeed, the presentation ceremony for the donation of PPE items to the 3 groups in Ghana took place on 6th May 2020 at Lekma Hospital Accra with the Deputy Minister of Health, Hon Dr Bernard Okoe Boye in attendance to do the honours. Prof Sam Debrah and Dr Fobi Adusa-Amankwa (Both GDDA-UK members now in Ghana) were also there to represent GDDA-UK for which we thank them.

We are most grateful to Dr Pamela Abban Ohene-Djan, our Secretary, for all her hard work, in single handedly ordering and purchasing the PPE and hygiene/Sanitisation products in Ghana and attaching our GDDA-UK logo as well as a health message on them. We will also like to thank her for personally inviting the Deputy Minister of Health, Hon Dr Bernard Okoe Boye to the presentation ceremony.

There has been extensive news coverage in Ghana of our donation by Ghanaian Times, City News and Peace FM which has given us national recognition in our beloved home country, as well as excellent publicity for GDDA-UK.

I have attached the news report form Citi News and Ghanaian Times for you to look at. This will be put on our website (gddauk.org) for members and the general public as a demonstration of our practical steps, in line with our GDDA-UK aims and objectives, in helping combat Covid-19 pandemic in Ghana.

We are still collecting donations on our website so if you did not have the chance to contribute in the first wave please visit the website and do so. Please also encourage your friends, relatives and work colleagues to visit our website (gddauk.org) to make a donate.

Thank you and Stay safe.

Kind regards,

Dr William Kedjanyi

President GDDA-UK
